Our StoryA journey that became a collection
Walnut was founded by Joelle and Kate, brought together by a shared love of craftsmanship, culture and thoughtful living. Together they have spent decades working across fashion, design, interiors, luxury brands and creative industries, developing an instinct for quality, detail and timeless style.
But Walnut wasn't born from careers alone. It was shaped by journeys. By conversations with makers. By markets discovered down quiet streets. By textiles found in distant places. By colours, materials and craftsmanship encountered across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
For Joelle, growing up in Beirut instilled an appreciation for resilience, beauty and the importance of surrounding ourselves with things that endure. Her career in fashion - including time with Jigsaw - sharpened an eye for quality and craftsmanship, while extensive travel deepened a fascination with the stories behind the objects we choose to keep.
For Kate, a background in interior design, luxury brands, creative direction and upholstery created a lifelong appreciation for colour, texture, pattern and the emotional connection we form with the spaces we inhabit. Her passion for restoring and repurposing beautiful pieces reinforced a belief that the best objects are those that continue to evolve and gather meaning over time.
Together their travels have taken them through Rwanda, Kenya, Morocco, Nepal, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Zanzibar, Italy, Southern Spain and beyond. Along the way they collected more than objects. They collected ideas. Textures. Colours. Craftsmanship. Stories. And it is those experiences that continue to shape Walnut today.
